The Negron Family

The Negron family is celebrating many blessings from God.  Some of the blessings are found in their family...love for each other; the blessing of their children; and family togetherness.  Other blessings, though, come from Habitat...acceptance from and new friendships with Habitat volunteers and staff...and the realization of "a dream of a lifetime".

"Habitat for Humanity is helping our family in more ways than just providing us with decent affordable housing," said Mr. Negron.  "They are helping us achieve a dream of a lifetime.  This is the biggest gift we have received from GOD next to finding each other. It is a joy and a privilege to work out at the Habitat construction site."

Construction on their home began on April 10, 2010 and will be dedicated May 22, 2010 at 9 a.m.

The Ojeda Family

The economic downturn took a toll on the Ojeda Family.  Hector, Ruth, and their three beautiful and talented daughters were forced to live in a small two-bedroom apartment.  Through the Habitat program, though, they were able to build their own home.  “Habitat for Humanity means a lot for my family,” said Ruth.  “It means being able to purchase a safe and affordable home that we get to build with volunteers from the ground up.  Our new home will also provide a renewal in faith, the belief that in hard times one must always hold on tight to their beliefs (and each other) and with that they can weather any storms.”

The Martin Family

Annette Martin came to the United States from Jamaica in 2005.  The mother of four was full of hopes and dreams for the future.  She remains full of hopes and dreams despite experiencing many hardships since moving to Tampa.  The Habitat program has empowered Annette.

“This house means a lot to me,” she said.  “It represents a freedom that I have longed for.  This home is the start that I dreamt about when I first came to this country.”

The Lopez Family

The Lopez family didn’t have a home to call their own for many years.  Abigail and her sons, Juan and David, grew weary of moving from one apartment to another.  She had applied to the Habitat program several years ago and was denied.  After working through some financial issues Abigail decided to apply a second time...and was approved!

Building a home with Habitat Hillsborough represents security to Abigail and her family.  Juan and David look forward to planting citrus trees in the back yard and playing basketball and having rooms of their own.  "This new home," said Abigail, "will allow them to continue to grow and develop into outstanding young men."

The Harris Family

A self-proclaimed “country boy at heart”, Rashawn Harris, is a man with goals.  He is a student at USF and hopes to become a lawyer and represent those who cannot represent themselves.

Growing up, Rashawn’s parents took him to church regularly.  “It taught me to always have faith,” he said, “leaving life…and living in…God’s hands.”  They instilled in him a never-give-up attitude and that by never giving up, never surrendering, he could achieve all that he aspires to be.

Rashawn had dreamt about owning his own home – to provide a secure, permanent environment for his daughter, Alexia - a place to call their own.  They had been living in an apartment, but increases in the cost of living made it unaffordable for them to remain.  Through Habitat for Humanity Rashawn realized that dream.
