Clouds did not diminish the excitement in the air Saturday, January 16th, as the Lopez Family participated in the Wall Raising ceremony for their new home on 22nd Avenue in Tampa.
Store managers from Publix Super Markets,Inc. joined the family and Habitat volunteers in raising the front wall for the ceremony. Afterwards Habitat construction staff and volunteer Crew Leaders led other volunteers in building the frame of the Lopez home.
The passion and dedication of our volunteers was evident Saturday when, at the end of the day, the trusses were nearly completely installed on the home. Building a home is a big job, but Habitat volunteers are up to the task!

 What is a Crew Leader?
Habitat Hillsborough Crew Leaders are special people. They are volunteers who are truly dedicated to the mission of Habitat for Humanity of Hillsborough County Florida, Inc. Our Certified Crew Leaders are trained in Habitat construction processes because they are responsible, on any given build day, for the completion and quality of specific construction tasks. Our Crew Leader Trainer, Dick Gage, makes sure they know what they are doing.
Habitat Hillsborough builds homes, but we do it through the hands and hearts of
volunteers. Some volunteers are highly skilled in construction. Others are not. They may have little or no construction experience. Habitat Hillsborough Crew Leaders must ensure that our volunteers have a great Habitat experience. They must also be able to teach unskilled volunteers how to accomplish the tasks needed to build homes that will not only meet all building code requirements, but will provide a solid foundation for our partner families. Spring is just Around the Corner
Springtime is just around the corner…………and you can feel the thaw from the recent cold spell beginning to wane. The springtime weather brings new possibilities…………and as we all witness…..the trees begin to spout new leaves, the grass begins to turn green, and the flowers begin to bloom into a sea of color. You can feel the transformation in the air……and it’s always an exciting time of renewal.
Our Habitat affiliate is also affected by this change in weather……..the air is still cool………and the sky is blue………..and the season to build is near perfect. Volunteers seem to enjoy this time of year……..and for good reason. The weather is clean and crisp.
We have an exciting building season coming this spring………..and the weather will be perfect for the planned activities.
We begin with “I Heart Habitat” on February 6 at Van Dyke Church. At this volunteer recognition event, the affiliate will recognize and honor the many wonderful volunteers and families from the 2009 build year. The volunteers are the “heart” of our mission…………..and, we cannot express enough gratitude for the great work they do. It will be a wonderful and exciting event.

OUR MISSION
Habitat for Humanity of Hillsborough County is a volunteer nonprofit, faith-based organization dedicated to providing decent, affordable housing in partnership with the community and deserving families in Hillsborough County.
At Habitat for Humanity of Hillsborough County, our focus is on showing the love of God to families in Hillsborough County by giving them a hand up, not a hand out. Habitat homebuyers must donate 500 "Sweat Equity" hours, be able to assist with closing costs, and make monthly mortgage payments. Habitat homes are sold to our homeowners at no profit with a no-interest mortgage.
We invite donors and volunteers from all walks of life to come together with our future homeowners to build relationships and to realize dreams.
Together we BUILD HOMES...BUILD LIVES...BUILD HOPE.
